WPIAL playoffs

-

Alyssa DeAngelo and Jenna Clark combine for 51 as Thomas Jefferson girls roll.

Turnaround goes on for Peters Township boys.

Thomas Jefferson has become extremely familiar with Gateway over the years. And they’ll be renewing their acquaintance Friday night.

Alyssa DeAngelo had a monster night with six 3-pointers as part of her game-high 26 points, while Jenna Clark had 25 points and Dalaney Ranallo had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards to lead Thomas Jefferson (17-6) to a 79-36 victory against Plum (1112) in the first round of the Class 5A tournament at North Allegheny.

The Jaguars will get a rematch with defending champion and No. 3 Gateway (19-3) at a site and time to be determined.

Last season, Gateway sent Thomas Jefferson out of the tournament with a 57-54 victory at Baldwin, then dragged the Jaguars into the PIAA playoffs where they defeated Slippery Rock before losing to eventual state champion Mars.

Plum, which got 20 points from Kennedie Montue, has not won a postseason game since a 50-49 victory against Ambridge in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 4A tournament on Feb. 16, 2002 at Gateway.
