All the talk about bringing more live music into the heart of Downtown turns into action this week with Wolfie’s Pub, the bar restaurant at 247 Forbes Ave., adding bands five nights a week, with a sixth night coming.

It begins Tuesday with The Attic Band, a group of young musicians doing pop, R&B and punk covers with a rotating cast (7-10 p.m.). Tuesday, May 7 will be the inaugural Tuesday Blues Day featuring harmonica player-singer Charlie Barath, blues guitarist Jimmy Adler and keyboardist John “The Junkman” Burgh. That Blues Day series will coincide with Pirates home games, with the music running from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday nights will be the Funk Factory Jam Session, hosted by bassist John Hall and members of the Steeltown Horns (7-10 p.m.).

On Thursdays, Pioneer Records, the label created by Point Park University students, presents an open mic that will feature pop-rock band Young Lungs (8-11 p.m.).

Fridays and Saturdays will be booked by Kevin Saftner, former owner of James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy. This Friday, it’s blues-rock band Dan Bubien & the Delta Struts with the JD Chaisson Trio (starting at 5 p.m.). On Saturday, it’s the David Gurwin Trio, led by the jazz pianist (8 p.m.).

In early June, Wolfie’s will be adding an Adler-hosted blues jam, making it six nights a week.

It’s all free admission, and Saftner says, “They are going to make it open air within the next couple months, so everybody walking by will hear the music.”

It will add more life to a Downtown spot that already has NOLA on the Square doing open-air live music on the weekends and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, which has been wanting to increase nightlife in the city, presenting its Saturday Night Market shows.
