It’s the day to celebrate native Jeff Goldblum in Pittsburgh
Isn’t every day Jeff Goldblum Day? Well, some people like to celebrate on a particular day of the year, July 13, with good reason.
For Artisan Pittsburgh in Garfield, that means honoring that “sultry afternoon in summer of 2004, [ when] the omnipotent and brave Pittsburgh City Council made a harrowing decision to honor an iconic, talented and unimaginably handsome legend by officially dubbing July 13th, 2004, ‘ Jeff Goldblum Day’ … a truly invaluable presence in pop- culture.”
Of most importance, the West Homestead native and star of blockbusters in the “Jurassic Park” series and “Independence Day” never ceases to express his love for Pittsburgh. In the past year, not only has he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but also he has visited the Carnegie Music Hall at the library in Munhall for two concerts with his band and has lent his voice to the Carnegie Science Center’s Buhl Planetarium.
Jeff Goldblum Day has continued at Artisan Pittsburgh as the brainchild of resident artist Matt McKelvey and Shauna Burd. Events run Saturday from 11 a. m.- 7 p. m. at 5001 Penn Ave.
The Garfield collective, which includes a cafe and tattoo parlor, celebrates the day with themed tattoo flash specials by resident artists ( sign- up is at 11 a. m.), live painting, astrology readings ( are you compatible with the actor?). You also are encouraged to come dressed in “your favorite Goldblum Get- up).
It’s obvious people can’t get enough of the actor on this day: Row House Cinema’s “Secret Jeff Goldblum Film” — and they still are not telling — screening at 9: 30 p. m. is sold out.
