America is too generous to other countries

- LINDA KELLY Monroeville

Kudos to Jack Carlson on his excellent solution to the overwhelming influx of immigrants entering our country ( July 10 letter, “Migrant Solution”). His solution is that every politician and every screaming, do- nothing protester take two families of migrants into their homes until their cases are adjudicated by immigration officials.

As a mother of an overworked and dedicated southwest border agent, I want to share some truths: American taxpayers have spent millions of dollars building nice facilities to house and feed and provide health care for these people, all at no cost to the immigrants. But we only have room for so many, not the hundreds and hundreds pouring in daily at the borders.

My heart goes out to all humans living in fear and starvation and those unable to afford health care and in other difficult situations. Let’s solve our own country’s problems first and become strong enough to help others in need. Please let us continue to have government, volunteers and other wonderful organizations, such as the Peace Corps, to help families in other countries.

America is the most generous nation on Earth in providing aid to other countries. Immigration is a difficult and sad situation. Unfortunately, we don’t have the power of God to save the entire world. Those protesting and making noise about this situation should actually do something productive and helpful. Take a trip to our border and see what our agents and their families deal with daily, then see how you feel about immigration.
