Perhaps more than any of the other golfers Wednesday at Valley Brook Country Club, there is a comfort to playing in Western Pennsylvania for Daniel Obremski.

That’s because the Penn- Trafford alumnus spent the first half of this year playing south of the U. S. border in the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, competing in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

“It’s very different, but there’s a lot of really good things,” Obremski said after the second round of the WPGA Open Championship. “The competition’s amazing. If you play well, you’re going to move up. It’s very difficult to travel, but the good thing is it’s preparing you for the PGA Tour.”

The PGA Latinoamerica season runs from January to June, takes a break for the summer, then picks back up again when the weather cools down.

In the meantime, Obremski is back in Pennsylvania, keeping his game sharp playing in WPGA events.

So far this week, at the WPGA Open Championship, his game has been just that: sharp. Obremski shot rounds of 4- under 68 on Tuesday and Wednesday and is in third place — five shots back of leader as he was often Beau Titsworth, who had an alternate. Obremski will head back south when the Latinoamerica Tour starts back up. It will likely be a bit less strenuous when he returns, since his newly earned, full- time status on the tour means he will likely have a more regular schedule — or at least a better idea of where he’ll need to travel next.

This time at home is enough to make him wish he could stay here permanently, though. Obremski recognizes it isn’t that simple.

“I like it here better,” Obremski said. “I would love to just stay here, but … right now it’s what I’ve got to do.”
