The Women’s World Cup will expand from 24 to 32 teams in 2023.

FIFA unanimousl­y approved expanding the Women’s World Cup from 24 teams to 32 for 2023 Wednesday and has reopened bidding to host the event.

Nine interested nations will submit formal bids by Oct. 4 and FIFA expects a decision next May.

• Justin Scott, 34, of New Castle had a big day July 20 at Pinehurst in North Carolina. Scott had a hole in one at the 163- yard 14th hole on Pinehurst No. 4, with a 9- iron. Later that day, on the new Cradle Short Course, he used a sand wedge to ace the 103- yard ninth hole.

• Christophe­r Tanabe of Sewickley used a 2- under 33 on the front nine to win the 106th Pennsylvan­ia Amateur at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa. He shot a 71 for a threeround score of 205 ( 5 under).

The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Samuel Girard to a seven- year extension with an annual average value of $ 5 million.

• The owners of the Calgary Flames struck a deal with the city to build a new $ 418 million event center. Calgary will own 100 percent of the building under the 35- year agreement.

• The New Jersey Devils re- signed defenseman Will Butcher to a three- year, $ 11.2 million contract.
