If you are feeling a chill in the air, it might be the weather. Or it might be that Pittsburgh’s ScareHouse is spreading news sure to raise goosebumps even on the warmest of summer days.

The creators of ScareHouse, a staple among America’s topranked haunted houses, are getting a jump on Halloween 2019 by heralding “a brand- new screamthemed attraction” — The Scream District — at a Penn Avenue site in the Strip District. The announcement comes as the Etna- based ScareHouse undergoes “a complete revamp” and a move for 2020.

New among the scares coming to the Strip is an escape room called “Stalked By a Killer,” in which guests enter a room that is “filling with poisonous gas, and you have just one hour to escape with your lives.” ScareHouse would have you think of it as a chance to star in your own horror movie, while solving “a series of fiendish puzzles from the mind of a deranged maniac.” ( Recommended for ages 12 and older; under 6 will require adult supervision.)

“The Basement,” the bestknown horror unleashed by ScareHouse, moves to the Strip from its previous haunting in Etna. The immersive horror experience “invites the brave to venture through alone or with a friend to step into a realm that will haunt their dreams and fuel their nightmares.” ( For 18 and older; a waiver must be signed for entry.)

The Scream District will operate on selected nights through Nov. 2, with the opening TBA.

Returning this year to Market Square, ScareHouse and The Original Oyster House will again team up to present Zombie Den, a pop- up bar where “the living and the undead gather inside a safe house at Ground Zero of a global zombie outbreak.” Inspired by George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead,” Zombie Den opens Sept. 24 and continues on selected nights.
