A Washington County Transportation Authority official has asked Peters council to allocate funds for Freedom Transit, a transportation service that has been operating daily in the township since April.

Sheila Grombita, transportation authority executive director, said Freedom Transit receives more than $1 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, but has to match a portion of those funds.

“We ask in your budget to consider putting something to help support Freedom Transit,” she said while addressing council on Monday night. Ms. Grombita also asked the township if a link to the Freedom Transit website could be placed on the Peters website. Council agreed, but did not indicate whether it would allocate funds in the budget for the program.

Freedom Transit’s County Line B route runs from Monongahela and passes through McMurray with stops in Canonsburg, Houston and McMurray on its way to Washington.

The route has three stops in Peters — one at the intersection of McMurray and Washington roads, one at the McMurray Towne Center and one at the intersection of Valley Brook and Bebout roads.

The schedule runs Monday through Friday and makes three trips in each direction with fares starting at $1.50. Seniors and children under age 11 can ride for free.

In other business, council:

• Approved a bid from Masco Construction for $49,300 for renovations to the municipal building’s brick paver patio at the entrance to council chambers. The pavers will be replaced with decorative concrete as part of the project.

• Approved a $60,925 bid from Estherlee Fence Co. Inc. for the replacement of the fence that surrounds sports field No. 5 in Peterswood Park.
