Notre Dame cruises to victory

Ian Book threw for 247 yards and one touchdown and Tony Jones Jr. scored on an 84-yard run, helping No. 14-ranked Notre Dame dominate Iowa State, 33-9, Saturday in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

Book completed 20 of 28 passes without an interception, including a 27-yard touchdown throw to Chase Claypool as the Fighting Irish (11-2) wrapped up another double-digit win year on a six-game winning streak. Claypool had seven receptions for 146 yards and was named game MVP, while Jones finished with 135 yards rushing.

Brock Purdy was 17 of 30 for 222 yards and no interceptions for Iowa State (76). But the sophomore quarterback was unable to get his team into the end zone after throwing for a Cyclones’ single-season record 27 touchdowns in the regular season. Notre Dame’s defense was superb, forcing two first -quarter fumbles that helped the Irish build a 20-6 halftime lead.

LSU

Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was in uniform and participated in No. 1-ranked LSU’s Peach Bowl playoff semifinal against No. 4 Oklahoma. Edwards-Helaire, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection and the Tigers’ leading rusher, missed practice this week after hurting his hamstring last week.

Nate Stanley threw two TD passes in No. 19 Iowa’s 49-24 victory against No. 22 Southern California (8-5) in the Holiday Bowl late Friday night in San Diego. The Hawkeyes (103) won their fourth consecutive game for their sixth 10win season in coach Kirk Ferentz’s 21 years . ... Kadin Remsberg ran for 178 yards and scored on a 3-yard run late in the fourth, lifting No. 24 Air Force (11-2) past Washington State (6-7), 31-21, at the Cheez-It Bowl in Phoenix.
