Kentucky wins OT thriller

Final 8 points sink rival Louisville

Nick Richards had 13 points, including seven consecutiv­e in overtime, and No. 19-ranked Kentucky scored the final eight points for a 78-70 victory over No. 3 Louisville in a thrilling Bluegrass rivalry showdown.

Louisville led, 68-65, on Jordan Nwora’s 3-pointer with 2:20 left before Richards converted a 3-point play to make it 70-68. The junior forward added another layup and two more free throws before Immanuel Quickley and Tyrese Maxey provided a sixpoint cushion from the line.

Ashton Hagans’ dunk with 4.9 seconds left sealed the tense win at Rupp Arena.

Maxey’s free throws capped a career-best 27-point performanc­e while Richards had 10 rebounds to end a two-game losing streak by the Wildcats (9-3).

Cal State Fullerton

Wayne Arnold had 19 points off the bench and Jackson Rowe added 17 as the Titans upset UCLA, 77-74. The Titans made 14 3-pointers. Tyger Campbell scored 18 points for UCLA. This was the first time Cal State Fullerton (4-10) beat a Power Five school since December 2011. Austen Awosika made a floater in the lane with 22 seconds left to extend the Titans lead to 77-74. Jake Kyman missed a 3pointer with 15 seconds left. Jackson Rowe missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free throw, but later made the game-clinching steal to end the game. The Big West Conference Titans beat the Bruins on their home floor, providing another signature win for the program. It’s the second time in school history the Titans beat the Bruins.

Penn State

Minnesota rode a hot start to get past the Nittany Lions (6-6) in each team’s Big Ten Conference opener, 81-74, at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. The win was the 11th in a row for Minnesota (11-1) and its fifth consecutiv­e against Penn State. Freshman Sara Scalia (22) and junior Destiny Pitts (21) posted their third and fifth 20point games of the season, respective­ly, to lead the Gophers offense. Penn State’s Kamaria McDaniel led all scorers with 31 points.
