Police: Bloomfield stabbing involved beer

-

A 38-year-old man has been charged with stabbing his drinking companion in the throat late Thursday afternoon in Bloomfield shortly after they had beer together with a woman.

Police have obtained a warrant to arrest David Connor, whose address was unknown.

Online court records indicated that he was not in custody as of Saturday morning.

The victim was unable to talk to investigators, but he was able to communicate in the hospital by writing answers to questions. On the back of a photo of Mr. Connor that was shown to the victim by police, the victim wrote “stab me,” according to a criminal complaint.

Authorities found the victim in a large pool of blood at the corner of Baum Boulevard and Morewood Avenue at 4:48 p.m. Thursday.

Just before the stabbing, the victim had been with Mr. Connor and a woman drinking beer in the cafe area of the GetGo gas station in the 4900 block of Baum, the complaint said.

Surveillance video reviewed by police showed a man identified by police as Mr. Connor go outside and make hand motions, leading the victim to respond through the window with his own hand gestures from inside the store, including making a cutting motion and giving Mr. Connor the middle finger, police said.

Eventually, the victim and woman left the GetGo.

The complaint said a detective identified Mr. Connor as a suspect, but it does not say how she did so.

On Friday, police went to UPMC Presbyterian, where the victim was in critical condition with a trachea tube, and showed him two photo arrays. The victim identified both Mr. Connor and the female witness.

There is no indication in the complaint that police reviewed video that showed the stabbing or recovered a weapon.
