History lesson

-

A history lesson, for those who need a reminder. This country, as a nation, was brought about by a bunch of rebels who were not willing to roll over and play nice. They were called patriots because they won. The people who they were fighting against called them traitors.

The loyalists, also known as “Tories,” could not understand why their fellow citizens weren’t willing to shut up, accept the will of the king and never mind the whole taxation without representation (among other things) that were angering them.

After the rebellion (Revolution) ended, the Tories/losers were mostly expelled, and the patriots/winners eventually came up with a form of government that guaranteed that the people of this new and nascent nation would have certain

“inalienable rights.”

There is, of course, more to this story, but one thing that many people seem to forget is that it is in the DNA of the people who immigrated to this country (or were brought here against their will and survived) to rebel against situations, policies and leaders who they perceive as not having their best interests at heart.

It may take a while, because, well ... because people take a while to get angry enough to put their collective foot down and say “no more.”

But don’t be fooled. The next rebellion is already stirring, and if the folks in charge aren’t careful they might end up on the wrong side of history. DENISE GIRARDEAU
