PGA Tour could be streamed on ESPN+

The PGA Tour is closing in on its next television rights deal, likely to be announced after the West Coast swing now that the digital side is coming together.

Two people aware of the negotiatio­ns say ESPN has emerged as the winner of the streaming sweepstake­s, which currently belongs to NBC Sports. Live streaming would be available on ESPN+.

Patrick Cantlay, who won an award named after Ben Hogan for being the best college player in 2012, was chosen for the Ben Hogan Award by the Golf Writers Associatio­n of America as a player who overcame a serious injury to remain active. Cantlay missed the better part of three years because of a back injury.

Soccer

Christen Press scored the opening goal off a shoeless assist from Lynn Williams and the United States beat Haiti, 4-0, in its opening match of the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament in Houston. Williams added a goal in the 67th minute on a header off a corner kick from Megan Rapinoe. Lindsey Horan came off the bench and scored on her first touch in the 73rd minute and Carli Lloyd capped it off with a stoppage-time goal.

• Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in a training session with

European champion Lyon and will need surgery, ending her season.

• Riverhound­s SC signed defender/midfielder Xhelil Asani, who previously competed profession­ally in Eastern Europe, to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2021 season.

College football

Grand Valley State suspended offensive coordinato­r Morris Berger after comments he made when asked by student newspaper which three historical figures he would have dinner with. One of his choices was Adolf Hitler, because of his leadership skills.

• Washington State hired Jake Dickert as its defensive coordinato­r. He spent the past three seasons as a defensive coach at Wyoming, including last season as the defensive coordinato­r for the Cowboys.

Tennis

Teenager Coco Gauff was included in the U.S. Fed Cup team for the first time, joining Serena Williams, Sofia Kenin, Alison Riske of Peters Township and doubles specialist Bethanie Mattek-Sands for a qualifying series against Latvia next week.

Skiing

Henrik Kristoffer­sen won the men’s World Cup night slalom in Schladming, Austria, strengthen­ing his lead in the overall and discipline standings. Kristoffer­sen’s lead grew to 119 points over Alexis Pinturault in the overall standings, and to 57 over Daniel Yule in the slalom rankings.
