Mountainee­rs edge Kansas State

Penn State pulled away early in the second half to win at Nebraska, 76-64, Saturday night. Lamar Stevens scored 13 points and became the third 2,000-point scorer in program history. Mike Watkins had a seasonhigh 17 rebounds. Penn State (16-5, 6-4 Big Ten) has won four consecutiv­e games. The Cornhusker­s (7-15, 2-9) lost their seventh in a row.

West Virginia

Derek Culver was a force inside for the 12th-ranked Mountainee­rs, scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a 6657 win against visiting Kansas State (9-12, 2-6 Big 12). The Mountainee­rs (17-4, 5-3) gave coach Bob Huggins his 877th career win, moving him past Adolph Rupp on the all-time list.

Pitt

The Panthers women and No. 14 Florida State were tied at the half before the Seminoles (18-4, 7-4 ACC) came to life and won in a rout, 66-41, at Petersen Events Center. Dayshanett­e Harris led the Panthers (4-17, 1-9) with 17 points.

Robert Morris

The Colonials women, unbeaten and atop the Northeast Conference, overpowere­d last-place Central Connecticu­t State, 80-42. Four players scored in double figures for the host Colonials (14-6, 9-0). The Blue Devils (219, 1-9) made just 15 of 49 field goals (30.6%),

Elsewhere

All three top-25 Big East Conference men’s teams were upset at home, the first time that has happened according to ESPN Stats & Info. No. 8 Villanova lost to Creighton, 76-61; No. 10 Seton Hall to Xavier, 7462; and No. 16 Butler lost to Providence, 65-61. All the winners were unranked.
