WVU upended by TCU on road

Kevin Samuel scored six of his 19 points in overtime and TCU extended No. 17 West Virginia’s Big 12 road woes with a 67-60 victory over the Mountainee­rs on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Horned Frogs (15-12, 68) thought they had won for just the second time in nine games in regulation when Desmond Bane sent the crowd into a frenzy on a driving layup with 0.9 seconds left. But the senior guard was called for pushing off.

Jaire Grayer broke the 5555 tie with his only 3-pointer to start overtime, and Samuel hit two buckets and two free throws as the Mountainee­rs lost their fifth consecutiv­e road conference game.

Derek Culver had 18 points and 12 rebounds for West Virginia (19-8, 7-7).

Women’s games Iowa 100, Penn State 57:

The Nittany Lions couldn’t find an answer to a hot Iowa offense as the No. 19 Hawkeyes (22-5, 13-3 Big Ten) rolled at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Three players for Penn State (7-20, 1-15) finished in double figures led by Kamaria McDaniel with 22 points. Siyeh Frazier chipped in 14, while Peters Township’s Makenna Marisa added 12.

West Virginia 60, Kansas 53:

Three Mountainee­rs scored in double figures as West Virginia (16-9, 6-8 Big 12) beat Kansas (13-12, 212) at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. Senior guard Tynice Martin led all scorers with 19 points. Kari Niblack added 14 points and six rebounds. Madisen Smith contribute­d 12 points.

George Washington 72, Duquesne 65:

The fourth quarter at La Roche College began with the Dukes up by two, but Ariel Stephenson got hot from beyond the arc for the Colonials (12-15, 6-8 A-10) and the Dukes (17-10, 7-7) couldn’t keep up. Laia Sole led the way for the Dukes with 15 points. Nina Aho and Libby Bazelak added 14 and 13, respective­ly.
