Jaguars race past Oakland Catholic

Thomas Jefferson’s Alyssa DeAngelo capped a 30-point performance by scoring 13 of her team’s 17 fourth-quarter points in a 56-44 triumph against Oakland Catholic in a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal matchup.

“She’s a multi-tool player,” said Jaguars coach Lisa Fairman. “She can shoot, she can drive, she can rebound. With her size and athleticism, she just dominated and did what she’s capable of doing.”

Margaret Terry had 14 points and Alexa Washington added 11 for the Eagles (16-7).

Thomas Jefferson (186) moves on to a familiar foe in the semifinals Wednesday. The Jaguars will take on Chartiers Valley at a time and site to be determined. The Colts are 60 against the Jaguars spanning the past two seasons. Chartiers Valley knocked them out of the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs last year and won all four Section 1 meetings over the past two seasons.

However, Thomas Jefferson is riding a sevengame winning streak and nearly upset the Colts in their last meeting Jan. 23. Chartiers Valley needed a buzzer-beater from Perri Page to escape with a 4241 victory.

“It was a close game last game,” said DeAngelo. “They got us in the final seconds. We lost to them four times last season. So, definitely, one more shot at them means the world to me and my teammates.”
