Video causes attacks in Gaza Strip

-

Israeli military jets targeted sites linked to Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip on Sunday night, hours after militants from the group fired more than 20 rockets into Israeli territory.

The exchange came after a Palestinian news agency posted graphic footage showing an Israeli army bulldozer dragging the body of a Palestinian man, who Israel said was part of a “terror squad” and was killed as he placed an explosive device at the border fence.

The Israeli military said more than 20 projectiles and rockets were fired from Gaza. Most were intercepted by the Iron Dome aerial defense system. Videos shared on social media showed civilians in the cities of Ashkelon and Sderot crouching for cover as warning sirens blared in most of the Israeli communities around Gaza.

Study: 1 in 3 facing hunger in Venezuela

One in three people in Venezuela is struggling to get enough food to meet minimum nutrition requirements as the nation’s economic contraction and political upheaval persists, according to a study published Sunday by the U.N. World Food Program.

A nationwide survey based on data from 8,375 questionnaires reveals a startling picture of the large number of Venezuelans surviving off a diet consisting largely of tubers, or potato stems, and beans as hyperinflation renders many salaries worthless.

The study describes food insecurity as a nationwide concern. Certain states such as Delta Amacuro, Amazonas and Falcon had especially high levels, but even in more prosperous regions, one in five people are estimated to be food insecure.

President Nicolas Maduro’s government offered no response to the findings.
