1915 The Mellon Institute for Industrial Research, on O’Hara Street, Oakland, was dedicated.
1935 In what was said to be the largest industrial dismantling project in the city’s history, the National Tube Company began disassembling its Pennsylvania plant on Second Avenue, Downtown, and Republic plant on 24th Street, South Side. 1948 The Pennsylvania Railroad announced plans to build a $4.5 million warehouse covering three blocks between Penn and Liberty avenues.
1993 A truck bomb built by Islamic extremists exploded in the parking garage of the North Tower of New York’s World Trade Center, killing six people and injuring more than 1,000 others. (The bomb failed to topple the North Tower into the South Tower, as the terrorists had hoped; both structures were destroyed in the 9/11 attack eight years later.)
2019 A federal appeals court cleared AT&T’s takeover of Time Warner, rejecting claims from the Trump administration that the $81 billion deal would harm consumers and reduce competition.

Thought for today: “If you have it and you know you have it, then you have it. If you have it and don’t know you have it, you don’t have it. If you don’t have it but you think you have it, then you have it.”
