SOUTH W. Mifflin teen charged in Duquesne shooting

-

Police on Friday arrested a 17-year-old from West Mifflin in the shooting of a 19year-old multiple times on Feb. 16 in Duquesne.

Terril Leverett is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and gun offenses.

He was arrested at his house on Anna Avenue by Allegheny County and West Mifflin police.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was shot about 12:31 p.m. in the 500 block of Grant Avenue outside Ragtime Pizza. He took himself to UPMC McKeesport hospital, police said, but was later transferred by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian.

In an interview with a homicide detective, the victim said that he walked from his house on Grant Avenue to the pizzeria and shook hands with two people standing outside when one of them drew a gun and started shooting.

Surveillance video bore out his story, according to a criminal complaint. The video showed two men entering Ragtime to place an order and then waiting outside.

The victim approached, shook their hands and then stood facing them with his hands in his pockets. Police said the person later identified as Terril Leverett pulled a gun and fired, and then the second man followed suit, firing at least one shot.

An unidentified witness identified the first shooter from the video but did not know the identity of the second gunman, the complaint said. No motive was given in the complaint for the shooting.
