Class of 2020 seniors: We will get through this
As student body president of Obama Academy and a member of the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ student body, I felt the need to share my thoughts on the current state of our community, nation and world.
In recent weeks, we as American citizens witnessed the increase in the COVID-19 pandemic cases locally, but also globally. This unprecedented situation has caused universities, businesses, schools, cities and states to take the necessary steps to ensure that the well-being of the community is held at the utmost regard.
With the ongoing investigation to determine more about this outbreak and ways to decrease the spread and potential impact, decisions like social distancing, cancellation of large gatherings, and healthy hygiene are a necessary precaution.
This global pandemic is not something that many of us could have prepared for. However, it is important that we listen to the health experts and government officials as more information and research emerge. The more knowledgeable we are about this virus, the more we are able to navigate the trajectory of the situation, so that we may lean on one another for support.
With that being said, I need for everyone, especially the Class of 2020 seniors around the city, country and globe to lean on one another during this troubling time.
As a fellow senior who has spent the last 12 years transitioning from elementary, middle and high school, I understand everyone’s frustration on the possibility that we may not experience the milestones that we waited so long for. This moment of uncertainty is here, but I know that as long as we are united in the efforts to cease this pandemic, it shall soon pass.
We are strong. We are resilient. We are intelligent. We are gifted. We are talented. We are capable.
We are the Class of 2020!
