MICHAEL CARMODY

MARS SENIOR 6-7 • FORWARD

-

The scoop: Not many players in the WPIAL the past few decades put up scoring and rebounding statistics like Carmody, a 290-pound powerful, but yet agile player who has a future in football. Carmody nearly had 20/20 vision as he averaged 19.0 points and 19.5 rebounds. He also shot 64% from the field, 71% from the free-throw line and made 6 3-pointers. He started in three consecutive WPIAL Class 5A championships and finished his career with 1,182 points and 1,156 rebounds. First athlete to make Fabulous 22 in football and Fab 5 since New Castle’s Malik Hooker in 2013-14. College talk: Signed to play football at Notre Dame. Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan were also on his final list. Most memorable moment this season: Beating Chartiers Valley in the semifinals. Favorite player of all time: Damian Lillard. People might be surprised to know: I have a 4.0 grade-point average. You can’t be an athlete or a coach in the future, you’d be: A rollercoaster engineer. Favorite person to follow on Twitter: Joel Embiid. Toughest opponent: Probably Jarrod Simmons (from Moon) three years ago. Person who has influenced you the most, other than a parent: My brother (Robby, a basketball player at Notre Dame). Just watching him work through these injuries he’s had and watching him go through the college recruiting process helped me. Funniest moment from this season: When we were in Florida for a tournament, one of our players (Austin Cote) had a birthday. We got a hotel room key from his friend, went into his room at 12:30, jumped all over his bed and sang happy birthday. With no school because of the coronavirus, anything you’ve done differently to pass the time: My brother’s home and we usually don’t have much free time when he’s home. It’s nice just spending some family time together.
