We need to heal as a nation from the pandemic

-

As a community and a nation, we have our check engine light on. How we fix this problem will be an enormous task. Recently Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., gave his assessment, and a methodical approach to opening up our state. He was complimentary of Gov. Tom Wolf for his cautious approach to reopening up our state but had a different approach. We will be able look at back at the autopsy of our pandemic for mistakes and opportunities missed but we need to move forward like our lives and the lives of future generations depend on it.

We have learned to appreciate the workers that leave their homes everyday to care for our sick and stock the shelves in our stores as well as the teachers that educate our children. These people cannot be taken for granted. We are fortunate to have an army of caring dedicated people working to feed the thousands of people that are in desperate need of food.

But what about the people that suffer in silence?

Thousands of our citizens are without food, health care and a job.

The insecurity of these people may endure long after we attempt to turn on the collective “green light” and move to make our country whole again. To accomplish this, we need to think outside of the box and think like our progressive presidents did when faced with an equally daunting crisis.

We need health care for all, it’s the moral decision. We need to create jobs so our economy can survive. We need to heal as a nation.

Lastly, our last leader was faced with an oil spill of epic proportions which devastated five southern states. Did you know the political orientation of those states? Of course not, it wasn’t political, it was a leader doing his job.
