Pittsburgh Diocese announces mergers

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh on Wednesday announced more than five dozen parishes in the region will merge into 15 parishes July 1.

The parishes will be formed out of 15 current parish groupings, part of the diocese’s ongoing restructur­ing under its On Mission for The Church Alive program. The mergers will drop the number of parishes in the diocese from 152 to 106.

The new parishes are:

• Blessed Trinity, a combinatio­n of the parishes of Holy Angels in Hays, Holy Apostles in Pittsburgh and St. Sylvester in Brentwood.

• Guardian Angels will combine St. Alphonsus in Springdale, Holy Family in Creighton,

Holy Martyrs in Tarentum, St. Joseph in Natrona, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Natrona Heights and Our Lady of Victory in Harwick.

• Holy Family will comprise of the parishes of St. Irenaeus in Oakmont, St. Januarius and St. John the Baptist in Plum, St. Joseph in Verona and Our Lady of Joy in Holiday Park.

• Our Lady of the Lakes combines Transfigur­ation in Russellton and St. Victor in Bairdford.

• Our Lady of Mount Carmel brings together St. Athanasius in West View, Incarnatio­n of the Lord in Perry North, St. Sebastian in Ross and St. Teresa of Avila in Perrysvill­e.

• St. Aiden combines St. Alexis and St. Alphonsus in

Wexford.

• St. Isidore the Farmer combines St. Alphonsus in McDonald, St. Ann in Bulger, St. Columbkill­e in Imperial, St. Michael in Avella, Our Lady of Lourdes in Burgettsto­wn and St. Patrick in North Fayette.

• St. James combines St. Hilary and Immaculate Conception in Washington.

• St. John XXIII combines St. Benedict the Abbot in Peters, St. Francis of Assisi in Finleyvill­e and St. Isaac Jogues in Jefferson Hills.

• St. Joseph the Worker combines St. Colman in Turtle Creek, Good Shepherd in Braddock, St. John Fisher in Churchill, St. Jude the Apostle in Wilmerding, Madonna del Castello in Swissvale, St. Maurice in Forest Hills and Word of God in Swissvale.

• St. Michael the Archangel combines St. Bernard in Mt. Lebanon and Our Lady of Grace in Scott.

• St. Oscar Romero combines Holy Rosary in Muse, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Meadow Lands and St. Patrick in Canonsburg.

• St. Paul Cathedral combines St. Paul Cathedral and St. Regis in Oakland, St. Rosalia in Greenfield and St. Stephen in Hazelwood.

• St. Thomas the Apostle combines St. Agnes, Holy Trinity and Resurrecti­on in West Mifflin; Christ the Light of the World and St. Joseph in Duquesne; St. Rita and St. Therese of Lisieux in Munhall; and St. Maximilian Kolbe in Homestead.
