Brown avoids jail time, gets 2 years of probation

NFL free-agent Antonio Brown pleaded no contest Friday to charges related to a fight with a moving truck driver outside his South Florida home earlier this year.

As part of a deal with Broward County prosecutor­s, Brown pleaded no contest to burglary with battery, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal mischief. He will serve two years of probation, undergo a psychologi­cal evaluation and follow-up treatment, attend an anger management course, perform 100 hours of community service and follow a stay-away order.

Soccer

Soccer finally resumed in Italy — in a surreal atmosphere. Juventus and AC Milan walked out separately to eerie silence for the second leg of their Italian Cup semifinal. Juve and Milan played the first leg to a 1-1 draw before the season was stopped March 9. Serie A is set to restart June 20.

• English Premier League jerseys will feature “Black Lives Matter” instead of player names for the first 12 games after the competitio­n resumes Wednesday. The campaign logo will remain on jerseys through the July 26 end of the pandemic-delayed season.

• MLS will allow teams to sell advertisin­g patches on players’ shorts, an initiative to help organizati­ons offset considerab­le losses amid the shutdown caused by the novel coronaviru­s.

Colleges

Arizona State and Grand Canyon will meet in men’s basketball for the first time in 40 years next season as part of a home-and-home series.

• The University of Houston is suspending all voluntary workouts for its athletes after six tested positive for COVID-19 symptoms.

Auto racing

Formula One races in Azerbaijan, Singapore and Japan were canceled Friday because of issues arising from the coronaviru­s pandemic. The sport’s governing body said it still hopes to deliver up to 18 races in the rearranged 2020 season.

Elsewhere

The New Zealand government has relaxed border restrictio­ns to allow personnel from American and British America’s Cup syndicates to prepare in Auckland for the famous sailing event, which is scheduled to be staged in March 2021.
