Work together
The people in this country are tearing it apart. We are in a pandemic and the coronavirus has claimed over 120,000 lives. People are hurting financially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and they are fearful.
Rioting in the cities is not helping the situation. With all the anxiety that is going on in this country, tempers will eventually flare up over this issue.
People have a tendency to only watch part of a video. If people saw the entire video, one’s perception might change. George Floyd’s death was a travesty, and the person or persons who caused his death should be tried in a court of law.
People have a right to protest in a civil manner and seek justice for Floyd’s death. Instead, the protesters throughout the country are using this man’s death as an excuse to intimidate, vandalize, loot and burn buildings. If the protesters think they are helping their cause, they are wrong.
When I saw the news, it looked like mob mentality. I am afraid many more people will be injured or die, and it won’t be from the coronavirus.
Leaders are needed from the African American communities throughout the nation to publicly denounce the protesters’ destructive behavior and work with public officials at the local, county and state level. There needs to be better communication between community and police.
Every person’s life is precious. We are battling on two fronts — racism and the coronavirus. Unless we work together to solve these issues, our country will not survive. JOYCE MOSTOWY
