Two-pronged effort to preserve flag lauded
My aunt had passed away recently, and because she never married, I was the executor of her estate.
As my wife and I were cleaning her house, we came across my grandfather’s flag folded up in a box with other linens. Like everything in the attic, it was dusty and dirty. It had been given to my grandmother when he died due to his year-and-ahalf of fighting for the U.S. Army in France during World War I.
We thought it would be great to have it cleaned and properly folded in a holder, displaying the Army insignia and placed on our living room mantel. I took the flag to the Noblestown Road location of Suburban Cleaners. A week later when I went to pick it up, it looked brand new. I was told that there was no charge, as the owner, Frank Capo, felt it was the least that he could do.
I sent him a thank-you note, but I felt that Pittsburgh should know another great person is in our area. The next day, I took the flag across the street to the Green Tree office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — Vet Center to have it properly folded.
My heartfelt thanks to Jason Brosk, who took care of it immediately and also for no charge. Our family will be sending a donation to the Vet Center in appreciation. I’m still a bit overwhelmed by what both gentlemen did.

Allowing early purchase of gift card earns kudos
While running a lot of errands, I needed to purchase a Dairy Queen gift card. I stopped at the DQ on Route 286 in Plum Borough at 10 a.m.
As I sat at the order booth, a young lady came out and informed me that they weren’t open yet, as it wasn’t 10:30 a.m. I inquired if it would be possible to just get a gift card. After conferring with someone inside, she came back out and told me to pull around to the window and she would sell me a gift card.
She did and I was on my way, very thankful that I didn’t have to make a trip back, because that would have meant a lot of extra miles and time.
A little kindness means a lot and that young lady and her manager deserve kudos for their Random Act of Kindness.
