Pa. COVID-19 cases surpass 100,000 mark

Pennsylvan­ia topped 100,000 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with Allegheny County reporting 135 new cases, no new hospitaliz­ations and one death.

After the state registered more than 1,000 new cases Friday, total cases in Pennsylvan­ia climbed Saturday by 763 to 100,241. Those represent tests reported to the state Department of Health up to midnight Friday. Of those, 97,388 are confirmed and 2,853 are probable.

Statewide, there were 15 additional deaths, bringing the death toll to 7,007. Of those 15, five were in Western Pennsylvan­ia. There were two deaths in Washington County and one each in Beaver and Mercer counties, besides the one Allegheny County death.

The county’s latest numbers bring the total cases of COVID-19 to 6,125. There have been 5,933 confirmed cases and 192 probable cases, the county reported. Beaver County reported the next-highest number of positive cases with 31. Fayette County reported 20.

Allegheny’s positive cases cover a 15-day span from July 3 through July 17 and are out of 1,661 tests.

Those infected as part of the newest batch of cases range in age from 9 months to 99 years old.

Hospitaliz­ations remained steady at 507. The additional death brings the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the county to 207, of which 195 are confirmed as being because of the coronaviru­s.

The most recent victim died July 9 and was 81, according to the county.

People who have died from COVID-19 in the county range in age from 23 to 103.
