Dormont Craftsman with original details priced at $169,900

- By Rosa Colucci

Almost five years ago, Terry Maurice moved to Pittsburgh and found her house online.

“I felt like it was just perfect for me,” she said. “I had a friend go and look at it. The first time I saw it was the morning of the closing.”

She has had no regrets and it’s easy to see why. It’s a Craftsmanstyle bungalow with stained-glass windows, an arched front door and lots of other original features.

Now the house at 3259 Pinehurst Ave. in Dormont is on the market for $169,900 (MLS No.1456283) with Renee Zavitsanos of Piatt Sotheby’s International Realty, (412-418-3208 or www.piattsothebysrealty.com). It is open by appointment in accordance with

COVID-19 guidelines.

Ms. Maurice is sorry to sell. “It took me a year-and-a-half to decide. I’m getting married and we are moving closer to home in Vermont.”

The three-bedroom, one-bath home has a yellow-brick exterior with cedar shakes on the front dormer and a wide front porch with original beadboard ceiling and tile floor. The arched front door opens into a small entry hall with a coat closet and one of five stained-glass windows in the house. A red tulip motif adds charm.

Original French doors open into the living room, which has a decorative fireplace flanked by a pair of stained-glass windows. The living room has crown molding and brass sconces on each side of the arched entry leading to the dining room.

Ms. Maurice uses the dining room as a music room. A gateleg table is pushed to the side and the piano sits on an oak floor beneath another pair of stained-glass windows with a tulip motif. Sliding doors that lead to a patio let in lots of light.

The adjacent galley kitchen has white cabinets, white laminate counter tops and white appliances. At the back is a breakfast nook with an arched window.

The three bedrooms and full bathroom are on the second floor. Each bedroom has original trim,

pine floors, closets and sixover-one, double-hung windows. The bathroom has its original white subway tile on the walls and black-andwhite basketweave tile on the floor.

The rear deck is accessed through the dining room. The backyard includes a terraced vegetable garden.

“My son installed the terraced walls down there,” Ms. Maurice said. “It is really nice.”

The basement is unfinished and dry, with a laundry and all mechanicals. There is radiator heat. The roof was replaced in the past few years.

The property is in Keystone Oaks School District and close to stores and restaurants in Dormont and Mt. Lebanon.

The Allegheny County assessment is $107,000 and the tax bill is $3,640. Over the past three years, seven houses have sold in the 3200 block of Pinehurst Avenue for prices ranging from $160,000 in April 2017 to $254,900 in June 2018 (www2.alleghenycounty.us/RealEstate/

Building.aspx).

Ms. Maurice said she hopes the house’s next owner enjoys it as much as she has.

“It’s just cozy, immediately. You don’t need to do anything to make it that way,” she said.
