Construction to close, restrict Allegheny County roadways
Construction projects will close or cause lane restrictions for several major roadways in Allegheny County starting this weekend.
Starting 9 p.m. Friday, Route 28 will be limited to one lane in each direction between Millvale (Exit 3B) and the Highland Park Bridge (Exit 6). The restriction, scheduled to continue until 5 a.m. Monday, is part of the $11.54 million improvement project that is expected to conclude in the spring of 2021. This weekend’s construction includes concrete patching, barrier work and bridge deck repairs.
Downtown, the 10th Street Bypass will be closed starting at 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday. This closure is for gas line replacement on the Rachel Carson Bridge, over the 10th Street Bypass. All traffic will be detoured via Fort Duquesne Boulevard.
In South Park, Library Road (Route 88) will be closed between Clifton Road and Churchill Road beginning 10 p.m. Saturday and will not reopen until 7 a.m. July 25. This closure is for culvert replacement over Piney Fork Creek. There
will also be additional singlelane restrictions on Library Road and Clifton Road for paving crews to connect the new culvert. Separate detour routes for trucks and cars will be marked.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike will also be closed in both directions between Allegheny Valley (Exit 48) and Pittsburgh (Exit 57) beginning 11:59 p.m. Saturday and reopening 4 a.m. Sunday. This four-hour closure will allow crews to remove a beam from a bridge that crosses over the turnpike. Detours in both directions will be marked, and higher traffic is expected on those roads.
All road work scheduled for this weekend is weather permitting.
