EAST VP Pence set to visit Greensburg

Vice President Mike Pence will make an appearance in Greensburg on Thursday.

Mr. Pence will visit the Greensburg Police Department to host a Cops for Trump event, according to President Donald Trump’s campaign.

The event is scheduled to start at noon.

Motorcycli­st killed in Blairsvill­e identified

The driver of a motorcycle involved in a fatal onevehicle accident Friday morning in Blairsvill­e has been identified as 22-yearold Christian Shugars, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office reported.

Mr. Shugars, of Blairsvill­e, died in a Pittsburgh hospital a little more than hour after the 10:03 a.m. accident on Pizza Barn Road.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and trunk. The manner of death is an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

Drag racer killed at Keystone Raceway

A drag race driver was killed Friday afternoon when the vehicle he was operating on the track at Keystone Raceway in Derry Township made an abrupt right turn, struck a guide rail and a light pole, and overturned multiple times, Westmorela­nd County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha reported.

James R. Baker, 69, of Monroevill­e, was pronounced dead at 3:36 p.m. at Excela Latrobe Emergency Department.

Keystone Raceway, which has hosted pro and amateur car races since 1968, was hosting the weekend CARS Protection Plus 660 Bulb Nationals on its ¼mile drag strip.

According to the coroner’s office, Mr. Baker was the operator and lone occupant of a non-street legal 1936 Ford Roadster when the accident occurred. He was wearing a helmet and a harness.

The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy Sunday by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht and Pathology Associates and an investigat­ion by state police.
