Chargers give Bosa five-year extension

-

Defensive end Joey Bosa has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers. The extension will make him the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

Two people familiar with the deal said the deal is worth $135 million, which includes $78 million guaranteed at signing and $102 million overall.

The value eclipses the five-year, $125-million extension that Cleveland’s Myles Garrett signed two weeks ago. That contract included $100 million guaranteed for Garrett, a defensive end who was the top pick in 2017.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Bosa was the third overall pick in the 2016 draft and has been selected to two Pro Bowls.

Titans

Tennessee placed firstround draft pick Isaiah Wilson on the COVID-19 reserve list. That means Wilson, the No. 29 draft pick overall out of Georgia, either tested positive or came in close contact with someone who did.

Patriots

Linebacker Dont’a Hightower said that he is opting out of the 2020 season, highlighting a list of several Patriots who will sit out because of health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. The opt out was made available by the Players Association last week.

Bills

Starting defensive tackle Star Lotulelei has chosen to voluntarily opt out this season. The 30-year-old Lotulelei has seven years of NFL experience and was entering his third season.

Packers

Green Bay wide receiver Devin Funchess is opting out of playing this season in a move he calls one of the most difficult decisions he has ever made.

Bears

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman, the linchpin of Chicago’s run defense, will opt out of the 2020 season, according to NFL Network.
