Shaler native Ian Terry is back on ‘Big Brother’

Two days after winning “Big Brother” in 2012, Shaler native Ian Terry said he would happily return some day.

And so he has.

“I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette then. “Once you’ve won it once, I really don’t have a lot to prove. I feel I could just take it on the chin, be more lighthearted.”

CBS broadcast a live twohour episode of Cycle 22 Wednesday night where it introduced the 16 members of an allstar household, including Mr. Terry. Once again, a prize of $500,000 is up for grabs.

With the houseguests quarantined before entering the competition, host Julie Chen Moonves introduced the masked contestants outside of the set, which resembled a big, garishly decorated loft.

Mr. Terry was 21 when he won Cycle 14 of “Big Brother.” An engineering student at Tulane University, he returned to school after winning $500,000 on the show and earned his degree.

After moving to Houston and teaching physics, he took a job with a software company there and is currently a management consultant. He has also been busy podcasting about both “Big Brother” and “Sur-vivor,” also on CBS.

Mr. Terry began his first try at “Big Brother” as a super-fan of the show, and it paid off. At one point, he revealed a detailed chart that showed his winning strategy. It didn’t hurt that many in the household

appeared to view him as a nonthreatening, intense, geeky younger brother.

This time around, he’s no kid, although he did wear a similar blue Oxford shirt/khakis ensemble from the first time around.

Vowing to “hibernate” quietly for a few weeks, he said on the show Wednesday that he planned to amp up the strategy later.

“I think I can beat up on pretty much anybody at this game, just because I’m smart.”

“Big Brother” recently revealed the show’s fourbedroom “loft” designed by Scott Storey. It contains 94 HD cameras (there were 52 back in 2012) and 113 microphones. The program airs live Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on CBS and via the streaming service CBS All Access.
