Labor support

-

This letter is in response to the July 24 letter “Energy Plan.” The writer makes a lot of incredulous claims concerning American labor and makes an attempt to justify labor supporting our so-called president. Here are some actual facts:

To date, seven major national labor unions have endorsed Joe Biden.

The Republicans passed a socalled tax cut for the American worker in 2017 amounting to $1.5 trillion annually. The top 1% of Americans, along with the largest corporations, receive 73% of that $1.5 trillion, leaving 27% for the other 99% of Americans.

A Democratic-controlled government will raise the minimum wage to $15.50 per hour. Not so for the other side, and please, do not respond to this with the typical “if wages go up so will prices.” Not so.

Concerning energy jobs: America needs to develop renewable energy, not fossil fuels. Natural gas is a fossil fuel, and although it is the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel, there is still a lot of pollution related to the industry. Pollution costs lots of money.

In fact, Mr. Biden does not want to just instantly eliminate fossil fuels; he wants to systematically develop clean energy sources that ultimately will cost significantly less while not polluting the environment. New products mean new jobs.

The letter is not factual, which is typical of Fox News and many Republicans these days. The unions know which party represents them and so does America and it isn’t Donald Trump and his Republican henchmen. The Republican Party has been trying to eliminate unions (and Social Security) since Franklin D. Roosevelt was president in the 1940s. Fact: As union membership increases, so do workers’ wages.
