A 35.5-acre conference center in Moon that was part of the Bayer Corp. presence in Pittsburgh for more than 90 years has been sold.

The Baywood Conference Center has been purchased by an unidentified buyer, according to the Hanna Langholz Wilson Ellis real estate firm, which has been marketing the property.

In a newsletter announcing the sale, Hanna LWE stated that the new owner will continue to use the real estate as a conference and event center.

The center, located on Coraopolis Heights Road next to the Montour Country Club, features a mansion-like main building painted white with black shutters and a round driveway.

It holds seven bedrooms, two suites, a commercial kitchen, lounge, various dining rooms, a wine cellar, fitness center, laundry facility, a pool and patio, and office area.

Also located on the property are a lodge with more conference facilities and lounge area and a carriage house with two bedrooms.

Rounding out the complex are a barn and a stocked pond, as well as parking.

Bayer put the property up for sale last year. It had owned and operated the center since 1927.

Jim Winter, the Hanna LWE broker who represented Bayer in the sale, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Bayer announced last year that it was closing its operations in Robinson, where it employed 600 people and which had served as its North American headquarters.

The closure was to take place over two years as part of consolidations and job reductions planned after the German drug giant acquired St. Louis-based agricultural seed-maker Monsanto for $63 billion.
