The Community Market planned for Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield is expected to open its doors Sunday.

The grocery store, which is setting up shop in the former Shursave IGA property, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

“We are excited to have an opportunity to step in and provide the Bloomfield community with access to high-quality foods and services,” said Dan Donovan, a spokesman for O’Hara-based Giant Eagle, the grocery chain acting as operator of the store. “We thank those who helped make this new store a reality so quickly, and our new Community Market team who will bring it to life every day.”

Giant Eagle is affiliated with O’Hara-based Echo Realty, which bought the property in January for a sale price of $5.78 million.

Echo Realty said in a statement that Community Market will serve the neighborhood “until Echo Realty’s long-term site redevelopment plans are realized. During this time, Echo Realty is also engaging with community leaders regarding those future plans for the property.”

It has been a couple of years since one plan to redevelop the Bloomfield Shursave IGA fell through. In 2018, Indianapolisbased Milhaus proposed turning the site into a 200-plus unit apartment complex, but the plans for that development never materialized.

The Shursave IGA closed in July to reopen under the Community Market banner. The grocery store is expected to employ about 55 workers.
