County reports 77 new cases, 1 death

The Pennsylvan­ia Department of Health added 850 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, raising the statewide total to 123,800.

Another 20 deaths also were reported, increasing the figure to 7,465 since the pandemic began in March.

The new cases came from 24,713 test results reported through 10 p.m. Friday. From Aug. 7 to Aug. 14, the state reported 6,450 positive results from 167,267 tests.

The Allegheny County Health Department reported 77 new cases Saturday and one new death — the ninth time in the past 11 days the county has reported fewer than 100 cases. Beaver County had the second-highest new cases with 19, and Westmorela­nd County reported 16.

Allegheny County said new cases range in age from 3 months to 93 years old with a median age of 44.

The positive tests came from 1,321 results from Aug. 10-14.

The county said the new death involved a person in their 70s who died Aug. 9, bringing the death total in the county to 284. There were four additional deaths reported Saturday — one each in Armstrong, Beaver, Indiana and Washington counties.

There also were 11 new hospitaliz­ations reported Saturday in Allegheny County.

Overall, the county has reported 9,359 cases of the virus and 777 hospitaliz­ations since March 14.

• Lawrence: 422 (up 2)

• Mercer: 490 (up 10)

• Somerset: 142 (up 2)

• Venango: 68 (up 1)
