COVID-19 cases in the region rise by 188
There were 188 new cases of COVID-19 reported Sunday in Western Pennsylvania, according to the state health department. Two new deaths were reported in Pennsylvania, but none occurred in the region.
Of the new cases, 86 were reported in Allegheny County. Beaver, Westmoreland and Armstrong counties reported 16, 15 and 13, respectively.
In Allegheny County, the cases — 83 of which were confirmed — resulted from 1,415 tests and range in age from 2 to 96 years old. The median age is 50.
The county said the positives tests were conducted between July 31 and Aug. 22.
Since the pandemic began in mid-March, the county has reported 9,903 positive cases of the viral disease, with 925 hospitalizations as a result.
With the latest data, Allegheny’s death toll remains at 306. With Pennsylvania’s two new death, the state death toll is 7,578.
The number of cases reported statewide increased by 619 to 129,048.
