NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

Katy Perry, “Smile”: The pop superstar tweeted about her sixth album, “I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile. Angel Olsen, “Whole New Mess”:

The latest from the indie-rocker has her stripping down to guitar and vocals nine songs that appeared on 2019’s “All Mirrors.” It’s her first album without a backing band since her 2012 debut.

WHAT’S ON TV

“Trinkets” (Netflix): The second season of this series based on the young adult novel by screenwriter Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith (“Legally Blonde,” “10 Things I Hate About You”). When three teenage girls find themselves in the same mandated Shoplifters Anonymous meeting, an unlikely friendship forms between grieving misfit Elodie (Brianna Hildebrand), mysterious outsider Moe (Kiana Madeira) and Tabitha (Quintessa Swindell), an imperfect picture of perfection.

“Mysteries Decoded” (8 p.m. Thursday, WPCW): U.S. Navy veteran turned private investigator Jennifer Marshall heads to West Virginia with author MJ Banias (“The UFO People: A Curious Culture”) to examine the lore of the Mothman, a mysterious winged creature whose occasional appearances are regarded by locals as harbingers of imminent disaster. The most familiar example of this was a horrifying 1967 bridge collapse near the community of Point Pleasant.

“Masters of Illusion” (8 p.m. Friday, WPCW): An air cannon card trick is just one of the head-scratching feats on display in the new episode, “Copycats, Magical Matrimony and Moments in Time.”

“Now, Voyager” (8 p.m. Friday, TCM): “Don’t let’s ask for the moon. We have the stars.” Bette Davis found one of her most rewarding roles in this 1942 adaptation of Olive Higgins Prouty’s novel about a Boston spinster who escapes her suffocating mother (Gladys Cooper) to find a measure of happiness with an unhappily married man (Paul Henreid).

“The Goonies” (5:30 p.m. Saturday, AMC): If you were a kid in the 1980s, you probably have fond memories of this 1985 adventure flick, especially if you were a little “goony” yourself.

“Love Island” (8 p.m. Saturday, KDKA): If you missed some of this premiere week’s first episodes, take heart, because this two-hour recap special with host Arielle Vandenberg will provide latecomers with highlights from this week’s action, as well as exclusive interviews with this season’s participants and other previously unaired footage.

“Renovation Inc.” (8 p.m. Sunday, HGTV): Fan favorite home-renovation experts Bryan and Sarah Baeumler return in this new reality series, which takes viewers inside the story of how the couple built their booming home-renovation business in Canada.

2020 MTV Video Music Awards (8 p.m. Sunday, MTV/NICK): Keke Palmer is host for this year’s ceremonies, which will trade the crowded blowout originally planned for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., in favor of musical performances by featured artists from various iconic New York locations across all five boroughs of the city. It’s a move necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic, but it also is intended as an homage to the spirit and resilience of the Big Apple in the face of this health crisis. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande lead the field of nominees with nine each.

“Lovecraft Country” (9 p.m. Sunday, HBO): Leti (Jurnee Smollett) transforms a ramshackle Victorian on Chicago’s North Side into a boarding house in a gesture she hopes will help mend fences with her sister Ruby (guest star Wunmi Mosaku) in the new episode, “Holy Ghost.”

“Love Fraud” (9 p.m. Sunday, SHOW): This new four-part true-crime docuseries from filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady chronicles the disreputable exploits of con man Richard Scott Smith, a charmer who wrecked the lives of several women who fell under the spell of this cad. Ultimately, Smith is forced to go on the run, while his diverse victims find a common bond in their burning need to put this scoundrel behind bars. The premiere, “You Just Gotta Trust Me,” centers on Tracy, whose daughters were leery of “Mickey” (Smith’s alias) almost from the beginning.
