153 new virus cases reported in region
There were 670 new cases of COVID- 19 reported Sunday in Pennsylvania, with 153 of them in Western Pennsylvania.
The state health department also reported two new deaths from the viral disease.
With the latest data, the state has had 133,504 cases and 7,673 deaths since midMarch.
Allegheny County had the region’s highest case total with 99 — the 10th day in a row that cases have fallen below 100. Washington County had eight new cases, while Indiana and Westmoreland counties each had seven new cases.
Of the new statewide deaths, one — in Erie County — was reported in Western Pennsylvania.
Allegheny County, which has the region’s highest death toll, has 330 deaths.
Allegheny County’s latest results, obtained from 1,255 tests taken between Aug. 5 and Aug. 29, push the county’s total case count to 10,310. The new cases occurred in people between 2 and 102 years old. The county noted that the Aug. 5 test result is a transfer from another jurisdiction. It said all other test results are since Aug. 24.
There have been 966 hospitalizations in the county because of COVID- 19.
On Friday, the county health department announced that the number of people who can attend outdoor gatherings in Allegheny County has increased from 50 to 100 people.
