Allegheny reports 37 new cases
The Allegheny County Health Department on Tuesday reported its fourth day in a row of zero COVID- 19- related deaths. The county also reported 37 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.
With these additional cases, the county’s case total now stands at 10,847 cases of the virus since March 14, when the first case was reported.
The newest cases come from 480 tests that were taken between Sept. 1 and Sept. 6. Those who have recently tested positive range in age from 17 to 95, with a median age of 36. Of the 37 new cases, 35 are confirmed and two are considered to be probable cases.
With an increase of 496 new cases of the virus across the state, Pennsylvania has had 140,359 cases of COVID- 19. Of those new cases, 88 occurred in Western Pennsylvania. Allegheny County reported the highest increase, followed by Westmoreland County with 10 new cases.
With no new deaths for Tuesday, the death toll in Allegheny remained at 349.
Statewide, the health department reported 11 additional virusrelated deaths, none of which occurred in the western part of the state. Pennsylvania has had 7,791 deaths as a result of the virus.
Across the state, 496 people are
currently hospitalized for COVID- 19, with 64 of those people in Allegheny County, according to the most recent figures from the state. In total, the county has had 1,033 people hospitalized for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
On Tuesday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that restaurants will be able to open up to 50% capacity beginning on Sept. 21, if they complete an online self- certification process. All other guidelines like social distancing and mask wearing are still required, and establishments must end alcohol service at 10 p. m.
