Pa. reports 2,251 new cases, 37 more deaths over past 2 days

The number of reported COVID19 cases continues to rise in Allegheny County and statewide.

Pennsylvan­ia health officials on Sunday reported 2,251 new cases of COVID- 19 and 37 more deaths since Friday.

The state’s totals now stand at 163,535 cases of the virus and 8,216 virus- related deaths.

Western Pennsylvan­ia accounted for 486 of the new cases, with Allegheny County having the highest two- day total of 204 new diagnoses. Westmorela­nd County had 63 more cases.

Of the 37 new deaths statewide, Beaver County and Mercer County had one each. No new deaths were reported in Allegheny. To date, a total of 386 people have died in Allegheny as a result of the virus.

The latest cases bring Allegheny County’s case total to 12,731 since the beginning of the pandemic in mid- March. There have been 1,227 hospitaliz­ations.

Those recently diagnosed in the county range in age from a 1month- old to 95, with a median age of 35. The new cases were from tests taken between Sept. 12 and Oct. 3. Only one test is from Sept. 12. The remaining tests are from the last week. Of the 204 new cases, 180 are confirmed cases from PCR tests. A total of 24 cases are probable. Of the probable cases, 13 are from positive antigen tests.
