• Pennsylvania sees highest number of new cases in a single day since early April,
Pennsylvania continued to see an uptick in new cases of COVID19, reporting 1,857 new cases on Saturday and nine additional deaths. That number of new cases is the highest daily reported total since April 8, when the state reported 2,059 cases, and the second highest of the pandemic thus far.
Allegheny County reported 138 new COVID-19 cases, with two additional deaths.
Of the county’s 138 new cases, 113 are confirmed from 2,024 tests. Of the 25 probable cases, 20 are from positive antigen tests.
The ages of those diagnosed Saturday range from four months to92 years, with a median age of 40.
The two people who died were both in their 90s, with one death on Sept. 4 and one on Oct. 15. One of the deaths was associated with a long-term care facility. Since March, the county has seen 13,959 COVID-19 cases and 405 deaths.
Statewide, the latest cases bring the total to 180,943 cases of COVID-19 and 8,466 virus-related deaths.
Western Pennsylvania accounted for 466 of the state’s 1,857 new cases, with Allegheny County reporting the highest number at 139 and Westmoreland County following at 102.
Of the state’s nine deaths reported Saturday, five occurred in Western Pennsylvania: three in Westmoreland County and two in Allegheny County. In Allegheny County, 96 people are currently hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19, and 42 are currently hospitalized in Westmoreland County.
