Apparently, defense was optional in Memphis
Sometimes numbers are so ridiculous, they defy explanation. So we’ll just let them roll off the keypad here. Central Florida QB Dillion Gabriel passed for 601 yards (35 for 49). Three Knights had at least 175 yards receiving. As a team, they had 798 total yards. And they lost. For as good as Dillon was, Memphis QB Carson White might have been better, passing for 486 yards, six touchdowns and rallying the Tigers from a school-record 21-point third-quarter deficit to win, 50-49. The 1,509 combined yards set an American Athletic Conference record and, according to ESPN Stats & Info, was the most in an FBS game in five years. Need we say more?
