Suspected Monroeville Mall shooter turns self in

A suspect in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Saheed Gayle in the parking lot at MonroevilleMall on Oct. 7 has turnedhimself in to police.

Allegheny County police Sgt. Todd Dolfi confirmed Lawrence Mark Murphy, 20, cameto the Allegheny County Jailat about 5 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Murphy is being charged with criminal homicide and weapons violations, accordingto county police.

OnOct. 7, police were called to the mall about 1 p.m. and found Mr. Gayle shot in the chest. He was pronounced deadat a hospital.

Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said an argument broke out between Mr. Gayle and two other people in the parking lot. Mr. Gayle was shot and stumbled into the entranceto the mall’s west court, where he collapsed in the foyer.
