A poor argument for Heidelbaugh

-

With the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s endorsement of Heather Heidelbaugh for Pennsylvania attorney general (“Heidelbaugh for AG,” Oct. 11), centered on her Pittsburgh roots and the notion that current Attorney General Josh Shapiro “may” run for governor or U.S. senator in 2022, the PG editorial board seems to have forgotten its own past endorsements.

In 2010, the PG endorsed then-Attorney General Tom Corbett for governor, when he had two years remaining on his second term. He used one political office as leverage for another election, and the PG had no problem with this. Mr. Shapiro has not stated whether he will seek higher office. Did Mr. Corbett 10 years ago?

While praising Mr. Shapiro’s time and legal accomplishments in office, the PG mentions no policy positions of Ms. Heidelbaugh, other than agreeing with her position that Mr. Shapiro was too harshon Catholic priests accused of past abuse. PG readers and voters will hopefully see past this poorly argued choice of endorsement.
