Fishing Report: Trout stocking at North Park Lake

-

Lake Erie and tributaries (Erie County) Good flow, a greenish tinge and 45-degree water from recent rain and snow melt created good conditions for steelhead anglers. Egg sacs, single eggs and jigs were effective, and fly anglers hooked up using Wooly Buggers, nymphs and single egg patterns, but the fish were sluggish. On Walnut Creek, fish stopped moving at the falls, and at Walnut Creek Access Area they were caught at the stop sign pool and Manchester hole. Elk Creek gave up chromers as far south as the I-79 McKean exit. Steelhead finally moved up Raccoon Creek.

Allegheny River (Forest County) Walleye were taken at the Tionesta pool, and anglers caught walleye and Northern pike while trolling the shoreline off the island point and launching ramp.

Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County) Ice began to form along shorelines. Panfish were feeding in shallows.

North Park Lake (Allegheny County) The state plans to stock mostly rainbow trout and some browns between Monday and Dec. 19. As a COVID-19 precaution, the public is not invited to help.

Deer Lakes (Allegheny County) Anglers continued to catch trout in the Upper and Middle lakes.

Allegheny River (Allegheny County) Walleye and sauger took live creek chubs between the Harmar and Sharpsburg dams.

Pine Creek (Allegheny County) Fly and spin anglers caught trout from a recent stocking of the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only stretch, and good bass fishing was reported.

Canonsburg Lake (Washington County) Trout went for paste baits fished near the bottom, particularly near dam and McDowell Lane bridge.

Monongahela River (Washington County) Walleye were taken from shore, and boaters trolled for muskellunge.

Quemahoning Reservoir (Somerset County) Northern pike were taken near the bridge off Pittown Road.

Laurel Hill Lake (Somerset County) Trout were caught near Laurel Hill Creek inflow.
