Hurts gives Eagles a jolt as starter against Saints
Rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts gave the Eagles offense the jolt coach Doug Pederson was looking for, using his arm and legs to power Philadelphia to a 24-21 upset win against the New Orleans Saints, who saw their nine-game win streak come to an end.
Making his first start in place of the struggling Carson Wentz, Hurts went 17 for 30 for 167 yards and a touchdown and ran 18 times for 106 yards.
The Saints had gone 56 games without allowing a 100-yard rusher, the longest streak in the Super Bowl era. The Eagles (4-8-1) not only busted that up, but had two players go over the century mark as Miles Sanders ran 14 times for 115 yards and two scores.
Browns
With a combined 1,538 yards rushing heading into a game Monday night against Baltimore, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are on pace to become just the eighth set of teammates to each break 1,000 yards in a season. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (1,206) and Mark Ingram (1,018) did it last season.
Jaguars
Running back James Robinson became the first rookie in NFL history to top 1,000 yards in the first 14 weeks of a season. Robinson accomplished the feat with a 47-yard run early in the fourth quarter. He also became the fourth undrafted rookie in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards rushing, joining Indianapolis’ Dominic Rhodes (1,104 in 2001), Denver’s Phillip Lindsay (1,037 in 2018) and Tampa Bay’s LeGarrette Blount (1,007 in 2010).
Chargers
San Diego lost wide receiver Mike Williams early to a back injury. Offensive linemen Bryan Bulaga and Trai Turner left the game to be evaluated for concussions and did not return. The injuries come with the Chargers facing a short week, their next game Thursday night in Las Vegas.
