HBO Max app now available to Comcast X1, Roku customers
Pittsburghers who get their TV service through Comcast and were worried about how to stream “Wonder Woman 1984” on Christmas Day no longer have to fret.
Comcast announced Tuesday that an HBO Max app is now available for its Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex customers, meaning that everything from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reruns to new movies and TV shows like “The Flight Attendant” — featuring North Allegheny and Carnegie Mellon University alumnus Griffin Matthews — are now easily accessible.
“Since launching HBO Max, our teams have worked closely to deliver an HBO Max experience that would provide more frictionless access to Xfinity X1 and Flex customers, and we’re thrilled to debut the app today,” Jennifer Mirgorod, head of sales and account management at WarnerMedia Distribution, said in a news release.
“Millions of Xfinity customers can now easily explore all that HBO Max has to offer with a simple voice command.”
Xfinity users will be able to access new movies as a result of Warner Bros. announcement that it will release its entire 2021 slate of films on HBO Max the same day they hit movie theaters.
“The addition of the HBO Max app is another example of how we make it easier for customers to find their favorite live, on demand or streamed entertainment,” Rebecca Heap, Comcast Cable’s senior vice president of video and entertainment, said in the same news release.
HBO Max launched May 27 and became notorious for not being immediately available on certain cable services or digital media players. Roku customers were out of luck until this week, when the company finally struck a distribution deal with WarnerMedia, which operates HBO Max.
The HBO Max app debuted on Roku devices Wednesday, according to a report from Variety.
“We believe that all entertainment will be streamed, and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct-to-streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households,” Scott Rosenberg, Roku’s senior vice president of platform business, said in a statement.
“Reaching mutually beneficial agreements where Roku grows together with our partners is how we deliver an exceptional user experience at an incredible value for consumers, and we are excited by the opportunity to deepen our longstanding relationship with the team at WarnerMedia.”
