SV’s White highlights PVCA team
Thirty-eight players from the WPIAL were recognized on the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association all-state teams, which were released last week.
One name stands above the others.
Seneca Valley senior Sarah White was voted to the PVCA Class 4A all-state team for the fourth consecutive year.
“It’s a huge honor to be recognized for the fourth straight year,” said White, a 6-0 setter/outside hitter. “It’s a great way to end my high school career.”
White is only the third WPIAL player in the past 30 years to be recognized four times on the allstate team. The other two are Shannock Valley graduate Laura Hall (1995-98) and Upper St. Clair grad Samantha Amos (2012-15).
“I am very thankful for all the coaches and teammates who have helped me over the years,” White said. “I couldn’t have received these honors without their help and guidance. I also want to thank my family for their contribution.”
Seneca Valley qualified for the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs three of her four seasons with the Raiders.
“I have had the privilege of coaching Sarah for six years at Seneca Valley,” Seneca Valley coach Brett Poirier said. “She has met every expectation and delivered in multiple facets. She is a six-rotation player who can do everything: Block a big hitter, dig with the best of them, score points with her serve, deliver the ball on offense wherever you need it, and she is one of the top hitters in the WPIAL. She is the complete package. Ohio State hit the lottery when Sarah committed to play for them.”
Ohio State coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg, a Baldwin graduate, is thrilled to have White joining the Buckeyes.
“Sarah brings a level of athleticism to our setting position,” Flynn Oldenburg said. “She understands the flow of the game at a high level and will be an offensive threat above the net as well. She has a drive and determination to make a big impact for the future of our program. Having the opportunity to train Sarah in the past and see her natural ability to learn, I am thrilled to have her begin the next phase of her career as a Buckeye.”
Flynn Oldenburg was the director of Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Club prior to accepting the job at Ohio State.
“I’ve had Jen as a coach since I was a kid,” White said. “I committed to Ohio State the summer before my sophomore year, before Jen was hired. It was a bonus to know I would playing for her. I’m really looking forward to it.”
White was one of 12 players from the WPIAL chosen on the PVCA Class 4A all-state team.
