More to remember than just one day

-

Remember. Remember not only Jan. 6, 20201, when an attempted coup to overthrow American democracy was begun and thwarted.

Remember each action, lie, knowing silence, cowardice, ravenous power play and maniacal misinformation that led our country to the brink of fracture.

The fire burning under this pot has raged for years. Many are complicit in adding to the heat.

Remember the comments of Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in the 2016 primary as they accurately defined Donald Trump as narcissistic, selfserving, racist, xenophobic, unfit for office; even though their addiction to power had then became defenders and actors in this attempted autocratic scheme.

Remember Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and the other 12 U.S. senators, the over 140 U.S. representatives, who applauded the coup and promoted the lie. They know as we do that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, it wasn’t close. Nearly 100 legal challenges were defeated or were so ridiculous they never received a hearing.

Remember the television networks who continued to give airtime to an autocrat and leave unchallenged his lies and distortions.

Remember the state elected officials who joined the charade and staged mini coups in Harrisburg and erroneous rallies in our communities.

Remember how fragile our democratic experiment is and that the greatest threat comes from within our shores.

Remember when the world envied our freedom, our optimism, our free and fair elections, our peaceful transfer of power.

Remember when Americans shared strength for a common good, a unified purpose and to build a more perfect union.
